The Association of Mahallas of the Republic of Uzbekistan is studying the experience of regional development in the Kyrgyz Republic at the invitation of the Union of Local Self-Governments of Kyrgyzstan from April 7 to 12, 2025.
Two associations of local government structures of neighboring countries are strengthening partnerships, exchanging experiences in organizing local services, increasing citizen participation in local government, and expanding women’s political rights.
The delegation from Uzbekistan visited the Jogorku Kenesh, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, and the State Agency for Civil Service and Local Self-Government.
During the visit, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Union of Local Self-Governments of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Association of Mahallas of Uzbekistan, which became the basis for developing relations and building horizontal ties between the communities of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
Guests from Uzbekistan got acquainted with the work of NGOs supporting the development of local self-government and went to the city of Balykchy and Chon-Sary-Oy rural municipality to meet with employees of local self-government bodies, local council members and citizens and see with their own eyes the work of local self-government in Kyrgyzstan.
The event was organized with the support of the Effective Governance for Economic Development (EGED) programme, funded by the UK government through the FCDO and implemented in cooperation with the Development Policy Institute.
